President Obama Gives Agenda From His 1st State of the Union Speech 2010

The State of the Union Speech 1-27-10 was President Obama's first State of the Union Speech since being Elected November 2008. Republican Leader John Boehner promised to have no outbursts from his party members like the imfamous Joe Wilson reference. The Speech content was already antipicating that there will be a freeze in government spending. Some of the themes include Education, but like in the 2006 what is the relevance of talking about education when the leaders have already shown us how they lead or vote on issues. No speech can really influence the fact that in California Cal State tuitions are going up possibly as much as 30% so the speech right now talking about education-Please has no impact on real peoples costs for educating themselves to prepare each better in the job market. And Jobs also is going to be a big theme of this State of the Union Speech a campaign like speech.
International Issues coming in to the Speech people include the Haiti Earthquake response as a current event. In National News, the Fort Hood Shooting is the biggest National Security breech issue that occurred under this Administration. Health Care is also another top issue for this Administration to discuss on how they want to reform the current system.
Everyone in the Government in both Houses are seated and present for this State of the Union Speech by President Barack Obama. The Supreme Court Justices walk into the building after being announced. Television shows the Justices walking in the House from the Chamber at 5:56pmPT. The 1st Lady Michelle Obama is introduced after the Supreme Court Justices. The President's Cabinet members are introduced before coming into the building. The Treasury Secretary today was said to have been grilled in hearings on the State of the Economy.
Wolf Blitzer of CNN mentioned before the speech: "How has the U.S.image abroad has improved since President Obama took Office"? I have to say I didn't understand the purpose of apologizing for other leaders and their agencies policies. I think it's all still the same.
More Members of the Cabinet come into the building to be seated for the speech include R Emanuel, R La Hood, J Napalotano, & R Gates.
Education from the 2006-2010 all throughtout the United States has changed. There is Federal Funding or stimulus going towards education, but how is it going to get to the individual students so that they are better prepared for work in the future. The rhetoric of the 2006 speech on Education obviously the education we all received was what we witnessed on the News from the amount of policies the last Administrations had towards everyone. And Right away the News talked about how President Obama Inhereted this State of the Economy. As Wolf Blitzer said "it's taking a lot longer" to get things in order, and that's another theme inside this speech which the Press is promoting to us.
It's always the same with the current leadership as they are trying to find ways to spend money rather than trying to find ways to raise revenues other than through raising taxes. Policy has ruined the National Economy, deminished National Security, and has hurt the Education system in every local district in the United States. The State of the Union speech can sound promising, but it's just a shadow. There are a lot of crimes we have seen and it's all hurting business while disrupting community and residence. The State of the Economy is in a budget fiscal deficit of 1.5 Trillion dollars in one year, and how do they expect to pay back this money while proposing new laws. This is the Change we get, and soon in the speech after it was done, everybody was talking about what they liked about it and didn't like about it.
2
"Deficit Reduction" was another theme we were told was going to be a focus in the speech. At 6:05pmPT, President Obama is introduced by Mr.Sullivan making the announcement to the House attenders and TV Viewers. President Obama comes in and at 6:06pmPT is announced: "Madam Speaker, The President of the United States".
With Secret Service men around President Obama coming in, there is a lot of clapping. The Clapping goes on for minutes, and it sounded like in the background you can hear "Ya, Ya", from the Democratic Side. President Obama comes in with Senator Reid and Speaker of the House Pelosi close by. With the clapping lasting for minutes and the entrance of President Obama, the first thing that is noticeable is his Appearance versus the other Congressional Leaders. President Obama walks in enthused, smiling, and looking good. President Obama looks secure. He stalls along the walkway up to the podium for 10 seconds talking to Tim Giettner.
President Obama then salutes the Joint Chief of Staffs and Military leaders. President Obama is saluting his rounds and gets to the podium at 6:09pmPT shaking Nancy Pelosi's hand and Vice President Joe Biden's hand.
With President Obama now at the Podium ready to give his State of the Union Speech for 2010, his first as President, the crowd noise is loud inside the building. President Obama first says:"thank you, thank you, thank you four times, then again shakes the hands of his VP. With all that clapping you would think they all picked the winner of the Kentucky Derby. President Obama continues saying thank you 10 times, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18 and by eighteen everyone then sits down to hear the speech. (I counted 18 thank you's).
President Obama comes out with the introduction that in Our Constitution for 200 years, the President gives information to the Congress in the State of the Union. President Obama is a lawyer oriented President similiar to former President Nixon was.
In his Introduction to this speech, President Obama was very assertive, to the point, but while talking about how the country is going to re-invest he seemed to act like we still have trillions of dollars to spend.
President Obama in his introduction brings up U.S History mentioning Omaha Beach. He mentions times like these tests the strengths of Our Union. He says that "Again we are answering history's call".
Right away in this speech, he blames former President Bush and how He came in with 2 Wars and an Economic Recession that almost led to a 2nd depression. President Obama quickly takes the credit next by stating that:"We Acted" by passing the Stimulus Bill. Currently 1 out of 10 at least are out of work in the United States, and some counties have 17 out of 100 people unemployed. It was funny that after all that clapping, and all that coming in with enthusiasm that the President used the already Passed Recovery Act as the reason on first how the government acted to save the recession from becoming a depression, and second on how it was because of that bill why so many jobs were either saved, not lost, or created from the Recovery Act. Then the clapping continued for it.
The President using words in his speech such as "economic times/this recession".
President Obama smooths the crowd and most of all the viewers by going into the next topic where he opens letters from children writing to him asking him when their parents are going to get a job, or why the bank wants to take their house from them. The parents have to approve any letter sent to the White House. He mentions that we are either "unable or unwilling to work to meet the big and difficult challenges". His voice seemed a bit different now I thought.
President Obama talks about American peoples great descency in every day life. He says:"I have never been more hopeful for America then I am tonight".
The Clapping starts up again, and this time many Congressional leaders get up after President Obama made that comment. He said:"Despite our hardships, our Union is Strong", "It begins with our Economy".
President Obama then directs his speech towards the Bank Bail Out saying that "we all hated the bank bail out", and again there was loud clapping. He then makes a joke: "I hated the bail out, you hated the bail out, but it was necessary". He said:"I had to do what was unpopular". President Obama quickly states that the bank recovery or bail out was from the policy of the last administration, and that most of the money has been repaid back from the banks.
This is where the speech gets juicy.
President Obama Gives his Agenda in his 1st State of the Union Speech 2010 by first proposing a new fee to the biggest banks. President Obama says that the banks CEO's can receieve bonuses and afford it, then they need to pay bigger fees. This point of the speech I began to think to myself that the bank bail out all along was over this. President Obama claims that the bail outs stabilized the financial system, but didn't talk about the bank fee's on interests, charges and uses, and now the economy is growing again.
President Obama then gears on taking more credit for himself, enjoying the moment, milking it stating that under his Administration there have been 25 different tax cuts. I ask where, and that I am going to have to look that up at least for me the leaders have been behind the information then already should know the state of the economy. President Obama states that 8 million Americans are getting tax breaks to pay for college and that there have been tax cuts. While the President gives his speech, the IRS has their own policy, and it's funny how the branches know of all the policies, then turn it around why the economy is in recession and how they are going to make it better through more policies. "I thought I'd get some applause on that one" as President Obama enjoys more cheers from the crowd after making a joke. I didn't think that was funny. The clapping continued.
President Obama talked about the American Spirit, the good, and descency, what we support. He quickly also mentioned saying why we stand by supporters protesting in the streets of Iran. The speech mentioned that once, but in public there has been no policy on that issue.
Next President Obama again took some credit saying that we have not raised taxes. It sounded like he indirectly was threatenting us that taxes have not gone up, but they can if he wants them to or if the Congress agrees to. It was an odd part of the speech sounding like if you or we don't give the President what he wants including the agenda brought forth before the speech composed by lawyers and speech writers that taxes can go up.
President Obama again takes the credit for saving tens of thousands of jobs by the Recovery Act and Tax Cuts. Pass it along next he talked about unemployment could be worse. I am not sure if he is being frank at this juncture I wrote. President Obama mentioned next jobs projects from companies in Pheonix to Philadelphia to Indiana where the Recovery Acts Money pumped in cash which saved or created jobs. President Obama stated that after 2 years of recession, the economy is now growing again.
On the Jobs front, he mentioned how people get frustrated after sending out their resumes, and not hearing a response. President Obama stated that jobs will be the focus of his Administration this year, but didn't mention on how to get employers submitting job openings to at least respond to all applicants. President Obama is calling for a new Jobs Bill tonight. He then talks about the importance of American Business, and after that part of the speech there is lots of clapping.
It's sad how out of touch of reality all these leaders are using individaul peoples recounts as means to borrow more money means to create jobs. President Obama talks about how the Recovery Act has created or saved jobs in companies in Ohio and Pennslyvania, and it's because of the Recovery Act. It's funny when the leaders try to sell their proposals how they use examples from certain states to show that the money is being used wisely and for that purpose.
Next President Obama with a lot of confidence in his speech as it goes along drops the bomb on us when before we are hearing that the government wants to reduce the deficit instead the policy contradicts that. President Obama next proposes to use 30 Billion dollars that was paid back from the banks on the bail outs to be re-used for the banks to lend money to small business loans. President Obama calls for 30 billion dollars for community banks to invest in small business loans, and after that proposal, the President to his liking gets a lot of clapping.
President Obama proposes tax credits for hiring new workers and for employers raising some wages. The proposed 5000 dollar tax credit to hire new workers sounded good. He also proposed to eliminate capital gains taxes, and the conservative philosophy I liked, but soon all that clapping stopped on that one. President Obama's proposal to eliminate capital gains taxes or some of them was the first time viewers got a glimpse that the President sounds a bit Republican in his views in business only that his party, the Democratic Party, have been and continue to put a lot of pressure on him to speak out and carry out their agenda and policy.
"We can have jobs today", President Obama was getting excited or sounding optimistic. "We can put Americans back to work today by building the infrastructure for tomorrow". The infrastructure excuse comes up every 10 years by Democratic leaders where they use stimulus money from the tax payer to go to companies receiving the bids to do road work and other construction/engineering. President Obama then mentions that he is going to Tampa, Florida to check out the new high speed railway project thanking the Recovery Act. The President pauses "huh" before getting into his next topic for his agenda in this State of the Union speech 2010.
President Obama now turned his attention on Green Jobs, or Clean Energy Buildings, and how to create green jobs in this new industry. President Obama then proposes and says that he wants to slash tax breaks to companies that ship jobs outside the United States, and to give tax breaks to companies hiring for jobs in America. The terms United States and America are differentiated it seems when making that statement.
President Obama pretty much is demanding a Jobs Bill on his desk. He says that "the House passed a Jobs Bill, and he urges the Senate to do the same, and I know they will". "People are hurting, people need our help". "I want a jobs bill on my desk without delay". Ironically I loved how he used certain terminology and words, and after a while I wonder who writes these speeches especially this one taking so much credit for not only the passing of the Recovery Act but for everything else.
President Obama oddly then mentioned or turned his focus on one of the latest Supreme Court rulings. President Obama said that he disagreed with the latest ruling to allow unlimited campaign financing towards candidates, which a 100 years ruling overturned, and he said "I believe that it will open the flood gates to foreign companies to influence our democracy and elections". The next days, he was criticized by many members of the Press on all networks that the statement he made was incorrect so his speech writers wrote that in without knowing that what he was saying was not correct on his assessment on the ruling. With Judge Alito noting his head while this statement was made on National Television, it was a bizarre moment, and I have never seen a President directly talk about a Supreme Court Ruling in the State of the Union Speech whether one agreed or disagreed. I have agreed with the latest Supreme Court rulings, the one's that I have kept up with. I think the Supreme Court is a very unique part of Our Democracy having judges debate the issues of law in that panel.
The President changes it up. "How long should America put their futures on hold"? President Obama then says that China is not waiting, Germany is not waiting, and lightly says India is not waiting. While there Economies are growing, they are not standing still. President Obama then goes from trade between the worlds nation to Math and Science and how important it is for our students to be skilled in the jobs for the future such as green jobs, infrastructure. "I don't accept 2nd place for the United States of America" he says.
President Obama stresses the needed for serious financial reforms.
President Obama then goes to the next issue and that is how he threatens to veto any bill if it doesn't bring reform. "We have to get it right", he says.
President Obama continued to address his first point, and that is how to create jobs. The President coming into the speech the latest report of unemployment numbers have it 750,000 jobs per month have been lost since he took office. Next President Obama talked about how to encourage innovation going now to green jobs or clean energy jobs. The President used an example of 1200 jobs created by the Recovery Act in North Carolina, and also he mentioned that a 1000 people have been put to work in a Solar Panels company in California. "Build clean, safe nuclear power plants in the country", President Obama says next. There was some clapping, and at the same time, there was some nodding by the members. President Obama then proposed or mentioned that he supports some safe off shore oil development. "It means continued investment in biolfuels and clean coal tech".
Next President Obama proposed a Comprehensive Clean Energy Bill. That Bill in another words means Cap and Trade, and he didn't present it as that, but meant it. Many people believe that Cap and Trade legislation will cost money. The Clean Energy Topic sounds so good, but it is so 10-20 years from being a more competetive industry. While companies do open as clean energy company's, they are competeting against other industries heavily influencing the economy.
President Obama goes from right to left as he states:"Can we afford this"? "I know many people disagree with climate change and the scientific evidence of it", and many members again nodding while he made the comments regarding how he wants America to become a more clean energy market. The Clean Energy proposals was his second item on his agenda for the State of the Union Speech 2010.
President Obama on his third item was for the United States to export more goods. Exporting more goods equals more jobs he says. President Obama stated that he wanted to double our exports the coming years. President Obama then mentions the farmers, and right when you would think he was going to talk more about agriculture, he focused on trading partners, and stated that he wanted to enforce trade agreements "play by the rules" he put it. President Obama didn't say how he wanted individuals and company's to get involved to be able to export more goods.
President Obama then proposed a Trade Agreement that has already been underway with South Korea, Panama, and Columbia calling them our trading partners.
President Obama's 4th item on his Agenda in this State of the Union Speech 2010 discussed the importance of skills and education for our people. He stated that in the 21st Century the best anti-poverty is for people to have a world class education. The recent Education Budget has 100 billion dollars appropriated out of the Stimulus from the Federal Government. President Obama proposed an Elementary and Secondary Education Act.
President Obama talked about how to make college more affordable. He talks about how he wants to get more involved in community colleges by using federal money versus state money for giving out loans. He talked about re-distribute the money offering tax credits for families sending their children to college. All of this part of the speech sounds good, and you'll have to wait and see.
President Obama then directs his attention on student loans. Then The President proposed something that I don't really agree with, and that is offering students payment for their student loans if they work in government. I find it to be a double standard with this proposal, but that is how the national economy has become, and while leaders talk about education, the government jobs/community conflict with the private sector jobs/community at times. One is given priority over the other. President Obama talked a bit about how colleges/universities need to cut their costs, but that is so farfectched right now that is not happening. There were no proposals given to institutions to lower costs for students tuitions.
President Obama fifth goes into Mortgages briefly. I think the way the mortgage industry was handled from the onset on how companies sold loans with high interest is why the economy went into recession. First when you have a person paying all this money just for interest on his mortgage, he has less money to spend on personal items or work items. Second if and when a person gets out of being a homeowner than becoming a renter, the state loses property taxes from that person each year. So when a person either loses or changes jobs, or if he gets his house foreclosed, or even sold, it's money that is not going towards taxes to the state produced by the one individual. People make adjustments and are rezealant. To add, being a homeowner gives one leverage to be able to be a small business owner by using equity in his house to get the loan for the business in the first place. The President talked about how he wants the government to lay off businesses, but wants to set more policy. President Obama talked a lot about how he wanted the banks to lend people money for small businesses even though some of these people may not be homeowners anymore and have no collateral. President Obama proposed a 30 billion dollar amount to go into Community Banks for the purpose to lend money for small business. This proposal of the 30 billion dollars for community banks re-investment continues to be criticised by some leaders in the Congress.
Next President Obama talks about Health Insurance Reform and mentioned how it's a burden on families the costs. The President receives loud clapping after that one. "I didn't choose this"!, he said. The President then started to give an example in this speech on how one illness can cause financial ruin. "We are closer than ever to passing a Bill", he said. "Security for Americans", the President stressed and added.
Next President Obama changed the subject a bit by introducing Michelle Obama as taking on the Issue of Childhodd Obesity.
President Obama stated that there was a 3 trillion dollar deficit before I walked in the door. He sounded a bit like he was bring up the deficits of the prior administrations budgets. He then states about how close we were from a second depression.
Back to the Bail Outs, and then President Obama talks about freezing Federal Government Spending in 1 year. The President proposes specific steps to put 1 trillion dollars into the economy. He wants a freeze of government spending for 3 years. President Obama said to work within a budget, and work with what we need, and sacrifice what we don't need. The President again threatens to veto a bill he is displeased with.
From this point of the speech although talking about deficit reduction and spending freeze you get the feeling that the speech is stating an agenda that creates a new communism. He talks about Executive Order, and talks about Power. "I refuse to pass this along to another generation of Americans". "Freeze Government Spending", the President says, "a proposal that takes into affect next year. That's how budgetary works", he says, and he gets laughs from that comment. The President said next:"The problem is that's what we did for 8 years". President Obama in that comment sounded like he was making fun of the prior Administration. "It's time to try something new, let's try common sense", President Obama says.
"That's why I came to Washington you elected me to do a job", President Obama says. The President next states that he wants spending limits given to lobbyists for campaigns. Ironically, isn't that how he got elected I ask? The President talks about that Supreme Court Decision and directly lashes towards them in his speech that he disagrees with that ruling calling it wrong. "Spend without limits to support candidates", he says. President Obama then proposed a bill to curve some of these problems. Everyone starts to clap, and the leaders behind Him stood up as there is more clapping.
"Pass Ear Mark Reform", He says next. Democrats and Repubicans must restore public trust people demand more? The Proposed Ear Mark Request is where before a Vote takes place for people to see how their money is being spent. The President is all about Reforms in this State of the Union Speech to his liking the way he goes from one topic to the next.
National Security was discussed next and now it's 7:00pm Pacific Time. The President then talks about Pet Projects. I start to think to myself:"I don't think the Republican leadership like this speech that much". There is distrust in our government. "I will not give up our tone", President Obama said. This being an election year, he brings up the 60 votes now not at 60. President Obama then directs his comments to the Congress:"Just say No to everything is not leadership criticising Repubicans". Vice President Biden smiles after that comment, and House Speaker Pelosi seems to be having a cow. President Obama proposed to have monthly meetings between Democrats and Repubicans. This is where both the parties leaders take to his liking that he is promoting the two party system when Independents have now a voice in American Politics, and it's a way to snub that movement by flexing political muscle right now I noticed. Then he brings up our history or some U.S. History. Next President Obama mentioned 9-11.
President Obama stated that He will do what it takes to defend our Nation.
The President talked a bit on National Security using the fear tactic a lot like his predecessor did at times. He stated for the leaders to put aside differences. He then talks about the terrorists. He wants investments to Homeland Security.
President Obama then talks about the Christmas Day Bomber. I don't think the Administration nor the Agencies have been completely honest with us on what exactly took place in this case. It seems as if one agency didn't share information with the others, or possibly put it all together in the first place to test security, then nobody wanted to take the fault. Now the person charged is said to be coorporating, or rewarded for failure, and it's the same deal everytime this sort of terrorism happens, and that is the truth is not coming out, and the leaders are not being candid on how this war is being fought whether it's how they claim. That is just my opinion, but what I do know is that the agencies don't have the best people out there protecting the homeland security, and they are conflicting with one another while the tax payers payroll continues rolling deep in support. Soonafter it right away keyed in to possibly having a conflict in Yemen over it. It's hard to believe what the leaders are telling us on this particular issue from top to bottom from the statements to the information to the way it started and how it was handled. That is why there is a lack of trust people have for government.
President Obama next talked about Afghanistans recent troop increase and by 2011 proposes the forces to come home. President Obama states that our troops are training Afghan security forces. He stated that he wanted to work to reduce curruption within the government there. He talked about men and women supporting a governorance. "There will be difficult days ahead", he says.
President Obama next talks about Al Qaedas group and how they have been taking on. These past 12 months many leaders have been killed he said. President Obama then gets into Iraq, and how he wants all troops out of Iraq. The President said that he supports Iraq elections, but didn't say anything about Afghanistan's recent elections. In Iraq he said how important it is to partner with people. The President said:"This War is ending, and all the Troops are coming home". Tonight men and women in uniform he thanked and asked for people to support them when they come home.
President Obama next states that Vice President Biden and First Lady Michelle Obama are going to start a new commission that supports military families. He says that there has been an increase of funding for Veterans the most in decades.
After all the selling of all the proposals, next President Obama drops the ball on his next topic on his agenda in this State of the Union Speech 2010 talking about the great danger of now bringing up nuclear weapons. The President I think a Kennedy/Democrat, mentions JFK, and Ronald Reagan how they proposed having a world free of nuclear weapons. I don't think this President understands the nuclear arms race and its history from the 1950's-1979. President Obama states that he wants the United States to secure all nuclear weapons material all over the world. "So they don't fall into the hands of terrorists", he says. President Obama quickly mentions North Korea. The President says that Iran is more isolated. "Iran too & have consequences, that's a promise, President Obama says refering to Iran continued efforts of its nuclear program.
Next President Obama brings up the Muslim Community. Next he mentions science and education. He states he wants to rebuild poor nations. He has yet to mention the National Disasters in Samoa, American Samoa, Indonesia, and other places of recent disasters. He talks about girls in Afghanistan. Instead of talking about human rights in Afghanistan for girls, he mentions human rights in Iran, and government corruption. "Americans must always stand up for human dignity", he says.
The next items on the agenda in this speech, President Obama next talks about how he wants to strengthen our laws on hate crimes. He talks a bit on job discrimination. The President proposes an Equal Pay Law for men and women. After that part of the speech, there is a lot of clapping.
Next President Obama proposes to repeal the Don't Ask Don't Tell policy for gays open actively serving in the military. The President's proposal continues to be debated between the Military leaders, Congressional Leaders, and Administration. The Presidents stance is that he wants to repeal that policy.
The President next stated that he wants to fix the broken immigration system. President Obama stated the importance of securing the borders. It sounded like the same rhetoric.
"Our ideals and values that built America", he says. Now at 7:15pm Pacific Time, the President goes back to talking about the American Spirit. President Obama then mentions the Media although not being specific on networks or channels. He talks about how CEO's shouldn't be rewarded for failure. The President stresses that our issues are complex and complicated and in a democracy of 300 million people it can be messy. He seems to stir controversy on this statement because he goes from the money issue to selling of projects and stimulus to current events then to education to nuclear weapons.
Concluding, the President says that "if you obeyed by the law you should be protected by it". "Our Administration had some set backs this year", he states.
He talks about his optimism and descency how we wouldn't be here tonight if it weren't for that descency bringing up that American Spirit of past and present. "Why we are Here", he says. "Even though times are tough for people, we are strong, we are rezealant, we are American", he says. "We don't quit, I don't quit". God Bless America he concludes.
The State of the Union Speech 2010 lasted for 70 minutes. There were 86 times applauses given after President Obama gave a proposal of bills.
The Recovery Act went from 787 billion dollars to 860 billion dollars. Currently there is a 1.5 trillion dollar 1 year fiscal budget deficit. While the speech was directed and focused on a jobs bill it sounded like the Speech was also trying to sell another or a second stimulus package where the first stimulus was to create jobs now the leadership wants a jobs bill after the almost 900 billion dollars has been passed for that Recovery Act. For every job created and for every person that gets a pay roll check now from that stimulus or Recovery Act, it costs money later and that money needs to be repaid back. They are jobs being created off a loan. The Act borrows money to give one a job taking money from another later on down the line. The Obama Administration claims that the Recovery Act created and or saved 2 million jobs.

The Haiti Earthquake 2

Part 2
The magnificent work of the American Press agencies have given TV viewers a strong sense of what is going on there on the ground in Haiti since the Earthquake. Recently there have been some press releases on live videos taken while the Earthquake happened last Tuesday. One video shows people running out of the store while the Earthquake struck lasting longer than usual for a quake. Currently there continues to be a very large scale rescue effort where crews are still saving people from the rubble and wreckage of buildings. To add, there have been 50+ aftershocks since the 7.0 almost 2 weeks ago that have contributed to more destruction throughout the capital and outside Port Au Prince.
I think it's important for people to recognize the work effort of the CNN News Team starting with Anderson Cooper giving us reports daily from Haiti. His team consisting of journalists and doctors, and we have seen rescues of people taken place. Last Wednesday the ABC report confirmed that there were 200,000 deaths so far contributed to the Earthquake. CNN's Anderson Cooper reported that many people were being buried without being recorded. There were and are so many bodies/people that get buried, and nobody knows what he/her name is. Men, women, and children are all affected by this Natural Disaster caused by natural causes.
It's hard to survive without food or water more than 3-5 days, but there have been some survivors after the 7 day period. 1 week after the 7.0, an elderly woman said to be 84 years old was taken out of rubble and she was alive. The IDF rescued a 22 year old. A 5 year old made it and survived after a 1 week period. An 11 year old girl whom we saw rescued on TV reports later died from her wounds days later from her wounds and not receiving the proper medical attention, medications, and follow up care.
There are many survivors being reported being taken out of buildings that collapsed.
There is one thing that stands out currently. While there is a mass relief effort going on, and lots of money being donated for the relief effort through various organizations, the food and medicine are slow getting out to the people and needy. The infrastructure has been completed devastated. There are many injured people that need medical attention. There are many injured people dying from a result of needing just basic medical attention. There are preventable deaths which continues to happen where people die after being injured and simply need antibiotics, and other basic medical needs.
Many people have died because the lack of doctors and medicine. Many preventable deaths are occurring and being recorded, and this is a great tragedy. The fact that the hospitals have been filled with so many people, there is just not enough personnel able to get the needed medicine on the ground. However, the effort of the U.S. Military Forces, the Red Cross, the American Press, and many countries various agencies have been coordinating on getting as much help and supplies out there as possible.
It's a slow process. It's a big complex mission. There have been reported looting, chaos, and people stealing food from other people. Karl Penhaul of CNN reported a policeman shooting a suspected looter. In that report, there was no evidence that the two shot in the back were looting, and this report showed that there is an abuse of power by the local authorities. There are a lot of people suffering right now.
I think it's important for people to watch these reports Anderson Cooper is doing daily from Haiti, and you can log onto his website. Follow the links which will show so many news stories of real people being affected. Our neighbors the Haitians have endured a great Catastrophe. Other Networks I followed reports whom sent their teams to Haiti include from Los Angeles David Ono of ABC, and Brian Williams of NBC are all journalists giving us the best information. This Event needs to be shown to future generations I think on how we reacted after hearing of the news.
I am not sure if our technology is up to par to track and record these Earthquakes we have been witnessing. Haiti does sit on a fault line. However, it has been 200 years since the last major Earthquake occurred. What caused the friction to cause the 7.0? What is causing the 50 plus Aftershocks?
From CNN Gary Tuckman stated that he sleeps outside not inside because he has been jolted by some of these aftershocks. The aftershocks have terrified people more so since they have still have yet to get over the 7.0 that happened 12 days ago.
The work the Los Angeles County Fire and Rescue Crew continues to do is extraordinary and they have saved lives. The crews team up and come into a difficult situation and are using censored microphones, dogs, and are finding live survivors with their professional techniques of rescue. There have been many rescues. The Los Angeles County Fire and Rescue Crews are going building to building looking for survivors.
To add within 10 days, a company that specializes in building codes enforcement from Southern California is working now in Haiti to partake in the reconstruction of buildings. This company's crew people are going 10 buildings at a time to write down and record what went wrong with that certain building how it collapsed. This is a time for company's, engineers, and construction crews to have some work to make money while reconstructing this Island that needs Our Help.
There currently are supplies on the ground that needs to be dispersed into the societies. That process has been chaotic in that the infrastructure has been leveled and laid out throughout the island while the aftershocks continue to happen. Wednesday's aftershock was a big earthquake or big aftershock and you can hear people screaming when they occur.
This is a human tragedy. There are many people, thousands of people working from all walks of life trying to put in their effort to get people to donate money to the various organizations such as the International Red Cross.
The Israeli Field Medics have also been a key factor on saving lives in Haiti. The Field Medics are some of the most important personnel in great demand needed for the relief currently. This mission will continue to last for months.
People are living in tent cities in parks throughout the city. Many people are leaving the Capital. Many orphans are being able to leave the country. There are a lot of news stories that have yet to reach the attention it needs in this great disaster of 2010. There are hundreds of thousands of people that are homeless. All in all the Haitian people have showed great courage, gratitude, tough, and have been calm under these extraordinary circumstances with some isolated incidents of looting in this anarchy with little government presence, but there is mostly order.
Other Recent Earthquakes that people ought to take a look at I think include May 12, 2008 Sichuan Province,(Southwestern) China Earthquake at 7.9. The Sumatra Earthquake in Indonesia along with the Samoa Earthquake, and Peru Earthquake continue to be investigated individually by geologists. Here in California the week before the Haiti Earthquake there was a 5.9 Earthquake in Redlands, California then aftershocks in the Banning area. In Eureka, California 10 miles West offshore a 5.9 Earthquake occurred and it was felt violently through parts of Humboldt County.
On Friday according to Gary Tuchman of CNN he stated that he felt that there is some progress being made now happening in Haiti. The major Cathedral has been destroyed. The scenes and rescues continue. The Relief Effort is a strong act of human kindness of the many individuals working in this effort what we are seeing. The Port has just recently been re-opened which will be a key factor on getting more supplies into Haiti.
Former U.S. Presidents' George W. Bush and Bill Clinton continue to ask us Americans through TV ads and press conference speeches to donate cash money for the relief effort in Haiti.

National Election 2010 News/Massachusetts SEAT OPEN? Scott Brown Wins Massachusetts

James Republican Strategy/Seat Open? The State of the Union 3 Scott Brown Wins Massachusetts Senate Seat

The 2010 Massachusetts Senate Election has turned out to be one of the most recent historical National Elections ever. The death of Edward Kennedy allowed a Senate Seat up for grabs. In the Senate Race, the Democrat Martha Coakley ran to keep that Seat as D versus the Republican Scott Brown.
At 7pm Pacific Time, Martha Coakley conceded the race with 96% of the votes tallied. A Republican just won a State that has historically voted Democrat.
In Coakley's Speech she thanked former President Clinton and the Kennedy Family for their support in this "Endeavor". In the Concession Speech she said:"This is the deal". "Although its over tonight, the mission continues and the work goes on". That part of the speech sounded similiar to Edward Kennedy's concession speech in the 1976 Democratic Nomination for President.
Massachusetts of late have been successful on registering Independent Party voters that swayed this election. In a Democratic State, this seat has been held by Kennedy since 1972. Coakley indirectly blamed what was going on in National Politics why she was unsuccessful at winning this election. She said that "the anger of the American People", health care she mentioned, the 2 Wars, troops attitudes towards national issues when they come home were all key factors why the Voters voted the way they did.
Now after the New Jersey and Virginia Elections, does the recent Massachusetts Election prove that the National Policies of American leaders the last 12 months are a cause and effect reason why the voters are voting they way they have?
Coakley did blame health care indirectly.
Browns Victory Speech first starts out: "The Independent Voice of Massachusetts has spoken".
With 96% of the Votes tallied according to the AP Poll, Brown had 52% of the votes at 1,112,574 and Martha Coackley had 47% with 1,000,597. Coakley conceded before all the votes tallied.
"This is the People's Seat" said Brown in his Victory speech now going on.
This is a very historical election, a possible referendum on the Democratic Party. Independent Voters make the difference in the Seat for Senate in Massachusetts in 2010. The Republicans currently have 41 Seats in the Senate. The Democrats no longer have the 60 Seats in the Senate to be able to pass legislation without any challenge. Coakley stated that she will continue to serve as Attorney General for the Commonwealth. This is a monumental win for Brown giving the Republicans this seat in a Blue State.

International News/Natural Disasters 2010 The Haiti Earthquake

On Tuesday January 12, 2010, at 5:43pmET a 7.0 Earthquake rocked Haiti's Capital Port Au Prince and surrounding areas. The Earthquake initially caused tens of thousands of deaths from the impact of the Earthquake which laid out buildings throughout the Capital and leveled neighborhoods & villages. The Island West of the Dominican Republic by today Sunday is pretty much "devastated". This Natural Disaster is the greatest and most powerful natural disaster on record the past 200 years. The Quake destroyed Haiti's infrastructure and caused mass deaths. There was no tsumami warning after the 7.0 Earthquake like Samoa, American Samoa, and Indonesia had after that Earthquake had.
I was watching the News on CNN s Situation Room that Tuesday like I have been doing while working on my computer. The News came fast, and so did the work of the Press not only at CNN but in other Networks. I think people at first in the Media World were a bit stunned from what happened, and many of them quickly made means to travel to Haiti to report on individual accounts. The United States started out with a 100 million dollar pledge along with sending a Navy Carrier and 5000-6000 US Troops for the relief effort which was announced the next day. The Haitian people had to endure the night before any aid came into the country, and there was great suffering.
Wednesday by 11:37am Pacific Time, there were a recorded 28 Aftershocks after the 7.0 Earthquake averaging at 5.0. So since the Big One, there continued to be strong aftershocks while people: men, women, and children were trapped in rubble of buildings throughout the city. Everything was pretty much leveled from the looks for the photos and videos the Press game us. Those are Our People out there, and you can hear people speaking to the Press in English on their tragedy and losses.
The Interesting thing on those 28 Aftershocks it was reported on the map of the US Geological Survey all 28 were West of the initial Quake. The Epicenter was located 10 miles East of the Capital of Port Au Prince, and it gave no time for warning of the 3 million people residing their in structures that are not Earthquake proof or would be considered under code. The Earthquake occurred 6 miles deep (another report first had it at 5 miles deep) beneath the surface. The Quake was felt all the way West to Quantanamo Bay, Cuba.
From the first reports coming in, it was reported that 45,000 Americans were in Haiti. The American Press began to do a remarkable job on getting down there to report, show people video of rescues, and help in other ways. CNN's reporters quickly got to Haiti, and before the U.S. Administration had rescue teams there for Haiti, it was the Press that first arrived there to report on what was happening after the Big Earthquake. There was a strong Press Element there in the first junctures that did quickly bring on International Attention for people to get involved, and to do more to quickly respond in any way for Haiti's relief effort.
Wednesday, CNN's Sanjay Gupta Medical Correspondent interviewed the President of Haiti Rene Preval. President Preval was away from the Presidential Palace after the collapse and destruction of the Palace. President Preval talked about how He wanted to help Haiti's people and is cordination relief efforts. He said it was an "Incredible" Earthquake". He stated that he was still trying to "Understand the Magnitude of the Event". He said Hospitals, the major airport, Schools, homes, the Presidential Palace were destroyed. People are now on the streets for 2 days with little capacity.
President Preval stated that early on there were no reports of looting, and mentioned that the Haitian People understand what is happening while people throughout are working on rescuing people and locating loved one's where there are many missing people. President Preval from his sources stated that during the Interview with CNN's correspondent on the ground that atleast 50,000 deaths were caused from the Earthquake. He stated that 50,000 is still a low number and that it is too early to give a number nervously. Buildings are collapsed, and now there are possible health hazards from all the bodies on the streets lined up as people gather them up from rubble. President Preval stated that he was not worried about violence from people because the people see the Situation.
Another early Report by CNN's Chris Lawrence interviewed an American from Fort Meyer Eye Witness working at a school. He stated that the Earthquake lasted 60-90 seconds. The children in his school were Ok luckily.
A Camera video from a building the Press showed had the Earthquake going "Up and Down" from what I saw.
According to Singer Wyclif Jean he was on the phone talking to his friend in Haiti, and she stated that an Earthquake was coming while on the phone meaning it is possible that she heard the sound before the impact or shake of the Earthquake.
Many buildings and structures even houses were not made strong enough to withstand this and not made up to Earthquake Code like people in California have to have before building anything. These concrete buildings collapses, and when the Earthquake hit, then rocked through, the 60-90 seconds result of impact is what caused so much destruction.
People all throughout Haiti especially in Port Au Prince were not prepared for this kind of Earthquake. President Preval asked for aid immediately when he was on the International airwaves asking for essentials such as food, water, Medical Supplies, and heavy Equipment. Haiti is in need for everything right now while the rescue effort continues and people are looking for survivors still in the rubble beneath crumbled buildings of concrete.
It's Sunday Night/Monday Morning on the East Coast Right Now. The First 72 hours were the most crucial hours for rescue crews to get into Haiti and save as many people. The rescue effort of the people participating has been a valiant effort. One of the issues is that Haiti needs Equipment, and was not ready for such a Natural Disaster. To add, Haiti needs personnel where many people some way were effected by this Earthquake. By Late Last Week Orange County Firefighters were scheduled to leave March Air Force Base to bring in Supplies to Haiti to help in the Rescue Effort, but they were held up. Los Angeles Firefighter teams centraled from Pacoima also coordinated on getting mass supplies on planes for Haiti. I thought by Thursday the International Reaction was not fast enough. Friday Night from the reports, it seemed that little aid was getting to those in need.
In Haiti, there are thousands of people terrified still from all the aftershocks and are sleeping on streets. It was said when the Earthquake happened that people left their cars. CNN reported Wednesday that 9,000 UN Peace Keepers were still unaccounted for. The United States, China, Canada, France, Netherlands, Dominican Republic, Cuba, Venezuela, and Israel early on have committed on giving millions of dollars and providing equipment, assistence, and personnel for the Relief Effort/Immediate Response.
